Research Resources

The Oatlands Research Library contains numerous primary and secondary sources relating to local and regional history, with an emphasis on the family histories of the owners of Oatlands: the Carter family in the 19th century and the Eustis family in the 20th century. Our collections include rare volumes from the personal library of Robert Carter III; letter books and ledgers of Oatlands' builder, George Carter; collected secondary information regarding the building of Oatlands, collateral families, and wills; and a small library of published sources related to local, regional, and national history, architecture, and decorative arts. These resources are available by appointment at least one week in advance to researchers for use at Oatlands. Specific questions or requests to use the library should be directed to the Director of Programming & Education at 703-777-3174 or lkimball@oatlands.org.
