George Gill

There were two men in Loudoun by the name of George W. Gill. The father was born circa 1854 and the son in 1890.  It was the son who worked in the gardens at Oatlands.  In the 1930 census, he and his family are living on or near the Oatlands property and he is listed as a laborer on a private estate.  He could have been laboring in the garden or on the farm, more likely the latter as others in that year’s census, such as John Mehl from Germany, are identified as gardeners.  By the 1940 census, George is identified as a gardener. He appears to have left Oatlands in 1949.
